This is the statue of Thao Suranaree, or Yaa moo as the locals call her. When Prince Anouvong of Vientiane was about to invade north eastern Thailand in 1826 she took the lead over the Thai forces to swap the Lao out. Her strong character and personality is an example for all who worship her and, as the next pictures show, this worshipping is done from before sunrise until very late at night. There is always an exciting atmosphere around.
