Say steel and you say Essen. The city is synonymous for steel. The city breethes steel. But times have changed, the German steel industry has had its best times, starting with the rise of economies in the Far east. Commerce and trade have taken over, and, as can be expected from Germans, in a solid way.
From the city of Essen was not much left after WW II since it was a prime target of allied bombing. The modernity of the city is a bit anonymous, but yet, I found it a fairly pleasant city to stay.
